Chemex

Family Owned since 1980

A chemist by the name of Peter Schlumbohm founded Chemex in 1941. Peters focused on how to take everyday objects and make them more functional for daily use. As a chemist, he understood the science behind the extraction of flavour from coffee beans and caffeine itself. Peter wanted the appearance of the brewing process to be visually appealing. So, he designed the hourglass-shaped device that is iconic in American history. Made from borosilicate glass, the Chemex is decorated with a wooden collar and a rawhide tie. This device uses gravity to pull hot water through a filler filled with coffee. The Chemex at Copa Habana has a slower brew time and stronger taste that you should not miss.
